Goal Setting is essential for success in life. According to the New English dictionary, a goal can be defined as an observable and measurable result having a set of objectives that need to be achieved within a fixed or specified time frame.
A goal is usually something that you set to aim for and accomplish. It is some kind of objective that you wish to pursue. A goal can also be a dream with a deadline. It is something you desire or wish to have or happen.
In other words, a goal is something you wish to achieve.
Some people might refer to it as their life purpose, while others might see to it as their aim. It’s something that you wish to accomplish, whether it is big or small. Goals can vary by time, by expectations, by the level of difficulty, and by a lot of other factors.
Examples of goals include losing weight, trying to adopt a good habit or trying to stop a bad one, choosing a particular career, etc. Some goals are short-term while other are long-term. Students, successful business people and achievers in all fields take goal setting seriously because it’s essential. There are mainly reasons to justify the goal setting, however I will only deal with some below;

Goals help us to identify what is essential and what is not quickly. You will only focus on the things that you want to achieve and spend precious time on them.

Setting goals for yourself help to fuel your ambition. Goal setting isn’t just about creating a plan for your life and holding yourself accountable; it’s also about inspiring you necessarily to aim for things you never thought possible.
3. Take Control of Your Life.
By sitting down and setting some goals, you break out of auto-pilot mode and start living a life of your conscious creation. Make things happen instead of waiting for things to happen. By proactively taking charge and making things happen, you become more successful.
4. Goals Allow You To Measure Progress.
By setting goals for yourself, you can measure your progress because you always have a fixed endpoint or benchmark to compare with.
5. It Helps You To Overcome Every Form Of Procrastination.
You become more accountable to finish off any task whenever you set a specific goal. This is purely different from when you do things based on a whim. Whether you complete them or not, these goals tend to stick in your mind always.
6. Goal setting helps you to become more successful.
This is because it helps you do things that you want. Most of the time, your goals relate to what your definition of success is. It helps you achieve success more efficiently and in less time.
By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals, and you’ll see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind.
Goal setting can be done periodically in order to modify plans where necessary or get back on track where there is a detour from original goals. Goals must be SMART- Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.
