Sound Sultan is a favorite Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, comedian and recording artiste. He was born with the birth name, Olanrewaju Fasasi on the 27th of November 1976 in Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria. Sound Sultan is the fourth child out of six children to father, Liadi Alarape Fasasi and mother, Adeyinka Ajarat Fasasi. He is originally from Iseyin, Oyo state. Sound Sultan attended Stepping Stone Nursery and Primary school for his basic education from the year 1981 to 1987, Federal Government College Ogbomosho, Osun State for his secondary school education from 1988 to 1993. He then furthered on to get a degree in Geography and Regional Planning at the Lagos State University in 1999.

Sound Sultan Biography

Sound Sultan started to realize his love for music from 1991 while still in secondary school. He used to mime at school parties and also wrote his own music lyrics. He got influenced musically by his elder brother,  Baba See who is a graduate of Theatre Arts. Sound Sultan had early dreams of becoming a doctor but later decided to go into music professionally. He began training on how to play the guitar after his high school education then joining a band in 1999.

Sound Sultan Music Career

Sound Sultan started music professionally in the 90s.  He hosted shows to help raise funds for his studio sessions. He also participated in so many talent hunts where he emerged as the winner.

Sound Sultan released his first single which he titled ‘Jagbajantis’ in 2000. The single was an instant hit and also an inspirational song to Nigerians. After the release of ‘Jagbajantis,’ he released other singles independently and also featured in other artistes singles. Due to his talent, he was later signed to Kennis Music in 2001 where he released four albums. His contract with Kennis Music later expired in 2007.

The talented musician teamed up with his brother Baba Dee to start up the ‘Naija Ninjas’ franchise which is a record label, clothing line, and production outfit. Under the Naija Ninjas,  he released the album, ‘Back From the Future’ in 2010. He also signed in some artistes including Karma Da Rapper, Young Grey C, Shawn, and Blacka. His franchise, Naija Ninja, has helped bring up so many upcoming artists and has assisted in their music pursuit.

After his long hiatus, Sound Sultan released a hip rap single which he titled ‘Remember’ in 2015. He released his 7th album in 2016. The album was titled ‘Out of the Box’ and featured 2face IdibiaPatoranking, and Sarkodie. The album recorded massive offline sales and online sales on iTunes and Spotify. He collaborated with Wizkid and 2face Idibia to create the hit ‘Geshomo’ which earned great airplay all over Africa and the United Kingdom.

Sound Sultan and Baba Dee got great success when they released a comedy movie titled ‘Head Gone’  on Netflix. The comedy movie featured well-known names in Nigeria such as Basketmouth, 2face Idibia, Akpororo, Basorge Tariah, Pappy Luwe among others.

Sound Sultan has a strong working relationship with the international artist, Wyclef Jean. Their relationship started when sound Sultan was featured alongside Faze and 2face Idibia on a song ‘Proud to be African’ from Wyclef’s album ‘Welcome to Haiti: Creole 101. Sound Sultan and  Wyclef Jean have collaborated on two other projects, ‘King of my Country’ in 2009 and ‘People Bad’ in 2012.

Sound Sultan was announced as the UN Ambassador for Peace for his excellent lifestyle and career in 2012. He is known for not staying with one music style and also indulging in Several genres of music,  starting up with rap,  then switching to R&B, Soul, Afrobeat, and Fuji from time to time. He pours his thoughts and feelings into his music and tries to communicate with his audience. Sound Sultan has successfully managed to help bring up budding stars and turn them, Superstars. He is considered as one of the pacesetters of the modern Hip-Hop music in Nigeria.

Sound Sultan has worked with many famous acts,  some of them are Banky W, Blackface, Sarkodie, Plantashun Boys,  2face Idibia to mention a few.  The list of his albums are Kpseeeeeew released in 2001; Textbook released in 2007, SS4 released in 2008, Back to the Future in 2010, Me,  My Mouth and Eye published in 2012 and Out of the Box was released in 2018.

Basketball

Sound Sultan used to play Basketball for the dodan Warriors.  But since he stopped playing, he has partnered with other investors to purchase shares in the Lagos Basketball Team,  Lagos Islander in 2015. He went on to be a facilitator in the African Basketball League and was later invited as a special guest at the first NBA Africa Games by NBA in November 2017. After the end of the African Basketball  League,  Sound Sultan collaborated with the organizers of the Continental Basketball League to become team owner of Lagos City Stars,  the 2017 Champions of the Continental Basketball League and is also a facilitator of the league’s entertainment at Large.

  • Best Special Effects Video award at the 2010 Nigeria Music video Awards.

  • Legendary award at the Scream Awards in 2016.
  • Headies award 2018 for Best Contemporary Song for the song ‘Funmi Lowo Mi”

Sound Sultan wife and religion

Sound Sultan is a Muslim. He got married to his longtime girlfriend ChiChi Morah on the 1st of October 2009. ChiChi later changed her name to Farida after converting to Islam. They have two sons and one daughter.
