Mafikizolo is an Afro-Pop group from South Africa. The group was created in Kagiso in the West Rand area of Johannesburg in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. It consists Theo Kgosinkwe, the Male singer and Nhlanhla Nciza, the female singer.
The group used to be made up of three members, but they later lost a member, Tebogo Benedict Madingane who was a Rapper in a road rage incident where he was shot on the 14th of February 2004. Mafikizolo is now made up of Nhlanhla Sibongile Mafu Naza who is the lead Singer and also a composer and Theo Kgosinkwe who is a Songwriter, Singer and Composer.
Mafikizolo Music career
They started out as a kwaito group in 1997. Their first album ever was titled ‘Mafikizolo’ and was also released that year. They released their second album which they titled ‘Music Revolution’in 1999. ‘Gate Crushers,’ their third album was released in 2000, the album featured hit singles like ‘Loot’ and ‘Majika.’
The album ‘Sibongile’ was released in 2002 after Nhlanhla Naza suffered from a fatal accident that left her hospitalized for some time. The album’s hit single was ‘Ndihamba Nawe.’ They got their inspiration for ‘Ndihamba Nawe’ from Sophie Mgcina’s 1960s ‘Mmangwane’.
Mafikizolo’s fifth album was released in 2003 and was titled ‘Kwala.’ The album featured their hits; ‘Udakwa Njalo’ and ‘Emlanjeni’ among many others. ‘Van Toeka AF’ was released in 2005, the album had ‘Mas Thokoze’ and ‘Nisixoshelani’ as it’s hit songs. In 2006, Mafikizolo released their eighth album ‘Six Mabone’. The album had hits singles as ‘Unden Zantoni’ and ‘O Tswa Tae.’ After their eighth album, Mafikizolo went on hiatus during which they released a compilation album in 2009 where their new song ‘Walila’ was included.
Mafikizolo returned from hiatus in 2013. Their single ‘Khona’ was in 2013 and brought them a lot of international recognition. Their album ‘Reunited’ was also released in 2013 and won them 12 South Africa Music Awards (SAMA) in a night. They went on their first tour in 2015. ‘Twenty,’ which is the follow-up album was released after four years in 2017. The album was to celebrate their 20th anniversary in the Music Industry. ’20’ featured hit songs like ‘Ofana Nawe’ featuring Yemi Alade and ‘Love Potion.’ The music video for ‘Love Potion’ earned more than 2 million views on YouTube within two months.
Mafikizolo’s music is influenced by Kwaito, and their music is described as Kwaito-cum-Marabi house Music. Mafikizolo’s music is concentrated on critical social issues such as poverty, the dangers of casual and unprotected sex and the importance of education. They have performed their songs all over South Africa and have a huge fan base all over Africa and the world.
Mafikizolo has visited Youth centers and HIV/AIDS care centers all over South Africa. They are very much involved in Youth development and community service in South Africa.

Nhlanhla Naza is married to Thembinkosi Naza and currently has two sons named Nkubuleko and Luvuyo. She lost her daughter Zinathi in 2009 when she was five.
Theo Kgosinkwe is married to Rose Kgosinkwe, and they have two lovely kids.
Theo was accused of being gay in 2011 which he denied stating that he was a family man and loved his wife dearly. His wife, Rose also expressed this in an interview saying that they had tremendous respect and love for each other.
