King Sunny Ade (KSA) whose full name is Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and performer. He is one of the first African pop musicians to gain international success and is well known for his juju style of music.
King Sunny Ade (KSA) Biography
King Sunny Ade was born on the 22nd of September, 1946 in Osogbo, Osun State to a royal family from Ondo State. His father’s name is Samuel Adeniyi Adegeye, while his mother’s name is Maria Adegeye. KSA’s father was a church organist and his mother a trader.
KSA graduated from grammar school in Ondo state and left for Lagos to further his education at the University of Lagos but ended up starting his musical career there.

KSA began his career with Moses Olaiya Federal Rhythm Dandies high-life band but left in 1967 to form a new band named, The Green Spots. He has however changed the name of his band several times over the years. It was first changed to African beats, and after to Golden Mercury. His early musical influences was the legendary Tunde Nightingale.
The global release of his album “Juju Music” in 1982 and its accompanying world tour was well embraced by critics everywhere; and even the New York Times describes KSA as one of the world’s great band leaders.
His next album “Syncro System” released in 1983 was also hugely successful and earned him his first Grammy Awards nomination and also made him the first Nigerian artist to get a Grammy Awards nomination.
He went on to release other successful albums and also became a Nigerian music legend for his exploits in the industry.
Sunny Ade’s stage performances was characterized by his mastery of the guitar and vibrant dancing steps. He embarked on a tour of America and Europe in the 1970s and 1980s and was received to great acclaim in both continents.
Sunny Ade has also collaborated with some of the best musicians in the world like Stevie Wonder and Manu Dibango. He has also done same with some Nigerian acts like Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Bola Abimbola, Wizkid and others.
KSA also had a short stint in Hollywood as he embarked on a career there in the 1980s and acted in 1987 comedy “O.C and Stiggs”. His music has also been featured in a few Hollywood films including “Breathless” in 1983 and “One More Saturday Night” in 1986.
King Sunny Ade is a visiting lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is also a recipient of the Nigerian National Honors of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic

King Sunny Ade is married to Princess Risikat Adejoke Adegeye and the marriage is blessed with six boys. He is also married to Queen Ahneva Adegeye and the marriage is blessed with a son and a daughter. The juju music maestro is also married to other women and blessed with other children.
