DJ Neptune is a Nigerian multi-talented Disc Jockey, songwriter, producer, music director, and singer. He is one of the most popular DJs in the country and is best known for his creativity and ability to create music in a diverse amount of music genre including Hip Hop, Funky, R&B, dancehall, and Afro beats.
DJ Neptune Early Life, Age, and Biography
Imohosen Patrick who we all know and love as DJ Neptune is an Edo indigene but resides in Lagos. He was born and raised in Edo state and is the only male child and last child of the four children born to his parents. His exposure to music began at the age of 10, and his love for the field of Disc Jockey started to take shape from that year. He began training via online DJ tutorials and workshops. Soon he was performing at local events including fast food joints, school parties, and Nightclubs.
DJ Neptune Music Career
DJ Neptune began his advent into the music industry officially in 2001 when he was hired by Ray Power 100.5 FM Lagos, which as at that time the first private radio station established in Nigeria. He worked as an in-house DJ with Ray Power for about six years (2004-2010) and developed quite a higher notch for the international music scene from this platform
Within his time at Ray Power, he began to recreate his niche in the music industry and by 2008, he had become a household name in the music industry. This was brought about when Nigerian rapper Naeto C signed him as his official DJ and Hypeman. Together, they established an impressive position not just in the Nigerian scene but also across Africa especially concerning the Hip Hop music genre.
DJ Neptune, through an in-depth passion for music, began to release promotional mixtapes which he distributed for free downloads. From then on, he began to produce his own DJ Albums; audios as well as visuals. Some of his hit tracks are 123 ( Remix) which featured MI, Naeto C, and Da Grin. Another thriving mix was “This Gbedu: which featured YQ, Shank and Ice Prince. Yet another lovely one was “Skoobi Doo” in which he featured Jesse Jagz, Lynxxx, and General Pype as well as “My #1” feat. May D and Kay Switch and “Twerk it” feat D’Prince.
In 2011, DJ Neptune took his music to an even more prominent position when he became the first Nigerian DJ to accomplish a high performance at the Historic South by South West Concert (SXSW) which was held at Austin, Texas.
One other significant achievement was his chief role in the creation of Naeto C’s award-winning “Super C Season” album. DJ Neptune has premiered as the DJ in many concerts in Nigeria for events held by many companies such as Hennessy Party/Artistry tour, Nigerian Breweries, Mtn Nigeria, Etisalat Nigerian, The Beat 99.9FM Lagos Beat Bar Crawl and many more.
He has also created lovely music ringtones for Blackberry smartphones especially Blackberry 9200/9320. In 2013, he also partnered with MTN Nigeria which led to the hosting of the first #MTNLoudInNaijaMixTape, which is one of the most downloaded Mixtapes via the MTN Play website receiving well over 400,000 downloads within the first two weeks of its release.
He has also performed outside the country in different areas across continents such as Liberia, South Africa, Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States, Ghana, Malawi, Dubai, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia, Trinidad and many more.
