Darey Art Alade is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was born to famous Nigerian Jazz pioneer Art Alade and his wife, Olapeju Alade. Darey attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos for his secondary school education and later graduated with a degree in Music from the University of Lagos. He furthered to the Music Society of Nigeria (MUSON) where he studied Music theory, voice and classical piano. Darey was exposed to music from an early age as he tagged along with his father to shows and got a glimpse of what showbiz is all about.

He built his music career and singing skills singing in various choirs including the National Troupe of Nigeria Choir and later in the Cathedral Choir. He started performing extensively in clubs around Lagos, Ibadan and around Nigeria from the age of fifteen. It was during one of his performance that he came across an executive in Cool FM, a Nigerian radio station. The executive was very impressed with Darey’s voice and also his ability to communicate with his audience. During his time in Cool FM, he shuttled between his school (University of Lagos) and the radio station. His time in Cool FM gave him the privilege of getting advance knowledge and skill in radio presentation, marketing, and production.
Start of Music Career
Darey’s breakthrough to the music world came in the 2004 edition of the Project Fame Academy, a well-known Reality TV show and Talent Hunt where he came out as third. From there, he signed a record deal with Sony BMG Africa which unfortunately did not yield fruit. After leaving Sony BMG, he signed to Storm Record where he released his debut album which he titled ‘From Me to You’ in 2007. This album was successful and featured songs like Escapade and Fuji. One of the songs ‘Original Naija’ was later used as the main theme song for Big Brother Nigeria. He also hosted the Future Awards and SMVAs in 2009.
Dare Art Alade spent some time working as a host for Project Fame, West Africa in 2008. He released another album titled ‘UnDAREYted’ in 2010 which was produced under his new label, Soul Muzik. The album sold 150,000 copies within 2 months all over Nigeria. The hit ballad ‘Not The Girl’ in the album got a lot of nominations and awards also for the video. UnDAREYted featured appearances from 9ice, 2face Idibia, Naeto C and Cobhams Asuquo. He performed at shows in Abuja, Lagos, Johannesburg, and Nairobi. He also organized a special show with Legendary R&B artist, R Kelly.
Darey released another album in 2011 titled ‘Double Dare.’ He released the single, ‘Special Fever’ produced by Harmony in May 2013 which became a hit. He released the Music Video for ‘Asiko’ featuring Jozi and Ice Prince also in 2013. He released another album in October 2015 called ‘Naked.’ The album ‘Naked’ consisted of 13 tracks which were of the R&B, Afrobeat and Soul genre. Oscar Heman-Ackan produced the album. It also featured collaborations with popular acts such as Asa, Olamide, the reputable Soweto Choir. ‘Pray for Me,’ one of the songs in the album was inspired by Paul Okoye‘s story about him and his father.
Dare Art Alade has shared the stage with prominent artists in the Music World such as Jay Z, Beyonce, Lionel Richie. Snoop Dogg, T-Pain, John Legend and many others. He has chatted with world leaders like Kofi Annan and Clinton.
Darey is Chief Creative Director for Live Spot- an event production digital agency and media company which he co-owns with his wife. They have studios located in both Lagos and Abuja. They are also the founders of ‘Love Like A Movie’ which is a Valentine’s Day celebration organized in theatrical style and holds in EKÓ Hotel and Suites, Lagos. The first Love like a Movie concert was held in 2013 and titled ‘The Flight of Love,’ it featured Reality Show Star, Kim Kardashian as the Red carpet host. The second one was held in 2014 and was titled ‘The Love Rollercoaster’ and featured award-winning American Singer, Kelly Rowland and other prominent artists like Zaina, Eva, Tiwa Savage, Timi Dakolo, JJC, Lamboghiny, Chioma and Mo Eazy.The third one held in 2016 titled Naked-The Revolution. The show featured performances from Grammy Award-winning American singer, dancer and dancer, Ciara and some of the Nigerian most beautiful music and dance performances.
Darey Art Alade supports cancer foundations and Organizations that help young Children. He also founded the ‘Art Foundation where that Help preserves music education in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria and Africa.
