The man we know as CDQ is a multi-talented songwriter, stage performer, and hip-hop rapper. His birth name is Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, and he is better known for his hit single “Nowo E Soke” where he featured WizKid and then “Indomie” by Masterkraft where he was featured alongside Olamide.

Background, Early Life, Childhood, and Education

CDQ was born on the 6th of May in Orile, Lagos State. However, he originates from Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. His primary education, secondary education and most of his early days were spent in Kwara state.  He then moved back to Lagos, where he studied Economics at Lagos State University.

Upon finishing his tertiary education, he proceeded into music and began to attend contests and concerts, where he showcased his skills.

CDQ Name and Meaning

According to CDQ, his name was crafted for him while he was in secondary school by one of his social directors at that time. It was initially crafted from his name Sodiq by this individual but the real meaning applied after he met Banky W, who is his patron in the Music Industry. According to him, Banky W coined his name from purchasing a “CD” of great quality. He said

He said when you go to the market to purchase a CD in the olden days, and the music is good, you will say the music is quality. So CDQ means CD quality at the same time.

Music Career

CDQ is widely known for his exquisite rapping style in the Yoruba Language, and this has been instrumental to his rise to stardom. CDQ began professional music in 2008 as a backup singer for Da-Grin (this happened while he was still very much in school). After this, he did some backup rapping for MI as well as DJ Jimmy Jatt and Wizkid.

In 2012, he attended a show at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, where he won the rap battle organized that night. This was a huge event that was instrumental to his decision to take his music beyond acting as a Back-up singer. This event also gained him more publicity and popularity as well.

Sometime in 2013, he got a recording contract with Masterkraft’s General Records, and in 2014, he released his first hit single “Indomie” which was received by many and loved my music lovers throughout Nigeria. The first of this hit single was done featuring Olamide while he featured Davido in the remix.

While working on his debut album, he enlisted the help of Wizkid, and together they made the hit single of his album, ‘Nowo E Soke”. On the 16th of August 2016, he released the cover art for his album and later that year, released the album totally.  It was titled “Quality.”

The same year, sometime in November, he created his record label “N.S.N.S” an acronym for “No Struggle No Success Entertainment.” In February 2017, he released his first hit single under his record label, titled “Say, Baba.” Since then he has released many other singles but no other album in play.
