Chiwetel Ejiofor Joins cast of Maleficent II

Chiwetel Ejiofor, joins Angelina Jolie on the cast for Maleficent II, an upcoming sequel to the highly successful 2014 Movie. The American Dark Fantasy film was produced by Walt Disney Pictures.

Disney has disclosed the commencement of filming for the sequel; four years after the blockbuster’s was released with the Nigerian-British actor among the cast.

Ejiofor, a highly successful actor and popular for his roles in movies, “12 years a Slave” and “Doctor Strange” features in the sequel of Maleficient; alongside Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, who both had prominent roles in the original movie.

In addition to Ejiofor, the sequel parades other new cast members including Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith, Robert Lindsay, Ed Skrein, and Harri Dickson as Prince Phillip.

The director of this sequel is Joachim Ronning, a Veteran film director who co-directed “Pirates of the Caribbean: DeadMen Tell No Tales”, with Angelina Jolie back to portray her previous role, same with Elle Fanning.

The original movie was hugely successful grossing over 750 million dollars at the global box office, excluding sales from other platforms; however, a release date for the sequel is yet to be announced.

Ejiofor was born in the United Kingdom and began his acting career in his teenage years and over time has featured in several award winning movies.

He has been rewarded with two Golden Globe Award nominations and the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award in 2006; Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in 2008; in addition to several other awards and nominations.

He starred in the 2013 award winning film “12 Years a Slave”, and his performance earned him an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations; in addition to the BAFTA Award for Best Actor

Queen Elizabeth II in 2008, appointed him as Officer of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to the arts; and in 2015 Birthday Honours was elevated to Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
